SMARTER WORK · 4 min read
Your first automation should start small.
Choose a repeatable task, keep a person in control, and learn from a pilot.
Follow one piece of work
Choose a process such as an incoming inquiry. Write down where it arrives, who reads it, what is copied elsewhere, and how the next person knows it is ready.
Define the trigger and outcome
A useful workflow has a clear starting event and a concrete result. For example: an inquiry creates a draft CRM record that a person reviews before a reply is sent.
Keep review where it matters
Decide which steps can run automatically and which require approval. Customer messages, financial actions, and sensitive information deserve particular care.
Design the failure path
Plan what happens when an integration is unavailable, a field is missing, or a record already exists. Give someone ownership of checking and resolving failures.
Measure before expanding
Record the current process and compare the pilot against it. Use observed results to decide whether to refine, expand, or stop. Avoid promising savings before measuring them.
